Membership Drive

-         Fall Social Event:

o       Plan: Meet in Hopeman to talk about the benefits of ASME, followed by a fun activity (bowling and laser tag were suggested).

o       Possibly charge upperclassmen to go, to diffuse event costs (free for freshmen, $3 for members, $5 for non-members?)

-         Marc has the membership pamphlets submitted by 104Q freshmen last week.

Senior Section Event (9/19)

-         The Senior Section is hosting a steak dinner on Wednesday, September 19th at 5:30 PM. We’d like to be well-represented at the event, so as many of us as possible should go.

-         The speaker will be UR chemical engineering professor Ben Ebenhack, who will be giving a talk on alternative energy.

-         The cost is $5 for students and $10 for everyone else. You have to pay in advance – either online with PAYPAL or by mailing a check. If you want to go, register ASAP.

ASME Scholarship Luncheon (9/20)

-         Steve reserved the Wells-Brown room from 12:30 to 2:00 PM for the lunch.

-         Food: Along the lines of cheese and crackers.

-         ASME Board, professors, and winners invited

-         Professor Gans will speak at the event..

-         Alissa agreed to make certificates for the winners

Fall Picnic (9/21)

-         We’ll be posting flyers around campus this week.

-         Alissa, Gerald, and Steve are responsible for getting food and beverages for the event on the morning of the picnic.

-         Music – We’ll arrange to bring a boom box and an extension cord to GVP.

Other Business

-         T-shirt / Sweatshirt : Start thinking about potential designs and ideas for ASME apparel. Ideas proposed were rugby shirts and sweatshirts.

-         Pumpkin Launch Committee – A few volunteers are needed to work out the details of the pumpkin launch (reserve the space, put up flyers, publish the rules for contestants, generate interest, etc.).

-         SLS Leadership Seminar – It sounds like a lot of us would like to go. We are still working out drivers. Also, we may need some more ASME polos for the conference. Gerald will make a spreadsheet including the costs involved and where we might get these funds.

-         Soapbox Team – A group of ASME juniors is participating in a soapbox competition. The juniors are underrepresented in ASME, so it would be great to get them interested in joining. Since they are looking for funds to support their team, ASME could sponsor them and contribute $50-$100.

-         Next week’s meeting will be rescheduled to Tuesday 9/18 at 6:15, to resolve the conflict with the Senior Section dinner.
