Fall Social Event (10/18)

-         Since the freshmen’s schedules do not coincide well with last week’s plans (10/22 or 10/23), we have rescheduled the event to October 18th (next Thursday).

-         We also moved it from off-campus to on-campus.

-         Plan:

o       7 PM: Pumpkin Launch Informational Meeting

o       7:30 PM: ASME information / food

§         Dave agreed to get declinable snacks

o       Afterwards: Challenge activity (such as having a contest to see who can build the highest tower out of paper, etc.)

-         We’ll postpone the off-campus event to the next social event (ice skating at GVP).

Reports from SLS Trip

-         Everyone had a good time!

-         Rochester may be the preliminary stop for a Mechanical Engineering – focus career fair.

-         Give your receipts to Gerald for reimbursement.

o       Sources of reimbursement: #1, ASME national; #2, Senior Section; #3, SA, and #4, our own funds

Pumpkin Launch (11/2)

-         The rules are set. The main change was that instead of a long-range contest, the winner will be the team with the highest distance/weight ratio, as a measure of performance. Contestants will weigh their launchers in on the day of the event.

-         Joni will write letters to potential judges.

-         We discussed possibilities for a scoreboard; suggestions included making something out of posterboard / construction paper, or purchasing a white board.

-         We’ll probably need 5 parking passes. We’ll also need materials to make judges’ and winners’ ribbons.

-         Contestants will bring their own pumpkins, but Gerald agreed to speak to local farms to get pumpkins after Halloween as spares.

-         Alissa said that she would reserve Wilson Commons for the event, hopefully from 1pm to 4pm. (outside, and Hirst Lounge if possible)

-         Event time: 2 PM start (weigh-in at 2pm).

-         We discussed having a day where we could make tools available to build pumpkin launchers. This would be on October 27th or 28th (Saturday or Sunday).

-         Steve will e-mail RIT students and the Senior Section to invite these groups to participate in the Launch.

-         Pumpkin launch flyers should go up this week.

Other Business

-         Steve reported from the Engineering President’s Meeting that ASME has the lunch spot for concessions sales at Lego League.
