Our Mission Statement
Our mission is to introduce University of Rochester undergraduates to the mechanical engineering community. This community begins with classmates and will extend to working engineers around the world. We support our mission by offering undergraduates social events to get to know other engineers, by sponsoring competitions that bring out their engineering talent, and by hosting speakers. We aim to make life as a mechanical engineer both socially and intellectually rewarding.

Annual ASME Faculty Roast and Dinner
The Faculty Roast is finally upon us! This year we will be hosting the event on Friday, April 4th at the Meliora Restaurant on campus. Look for representatives coming to your class selling tickets. If you happen to miss them, stop by the ME office in Hopeman and you can purchase the tickets from Pia. The tickets are again declinable for a price of $27.99 or available for $25 cash.
This year will follow a similar set-up to previous years. A little mix-and-mingle leading up to the roasts and dinner. This years menu is the best it's ever been, including a buffet of: pasta w/ Stir Fry Vegetables (vegetarian), grilled Chicken with a Roasted vegetable salsa, herb Crusted Salmon, prime rib with carving station, and much more. Drinks will be served so don't forget your ID. And of course, don't forget your dance shoes!
We hope to see you there!

Fall Social Event w/ Design Competition
We hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving break! In case you didn't get enough of ASME, we're having a general information meeting and our fall social event this Friday (Nov. 30 in Hopeman 224 of course!). The event begins at 7:00pm with our discussing ASME activities and an introduction of our board.
Then at 7:30, we give you snacks and begin our first puzzle challenge. This is the first in a series of these challenges, where everyone is given simple materials and use them to build towards a goal we set. I would tell you more but you'll have to come to the event to find out what we are making.
Finally, after a break, we'll meet back at GVP at 10:30 for some ice skating. We'll spot you for getting in (FREE admission!) and you can bring your own skates or rent them(this requires real money, but under $5). Feel free to come to any of the sections of the event by themselves, depending on what you want to do.
See you there!

Sixth Annual ASME Jack-O-Launcher
Be ready to send pumpkins high in the sky, because the annual pumpkin launch is here. The event begins at 2pm in the Wilson Quad, and we start firing pumkpins across the quad at 2:30. For those of you who don't know much about the launch, we invite anyone to come build a mechanically powered launcher to shoot as far or as accurately as possible. We explain the launcher in detail in our rules form. Our major upgrade from last years' rules is the launcher weight vs. distance challenge, where your launcher will score better the lighter it is.
But don't be scared by this intimidating list; we're always glad to see new launchers...even if they shoot backwards. If you plan to build a launcher, please contact us soon so we can sign you up. We will also spend our afternoons on Saturday and Sunday the 27th and 28th building launchers. Come on by to Hopeman where you can borrow our tools and build your last-minute-launcher.

Jack-O-Launcher Done until Next Year
It was another great and safe Jack-O-Launching event for the Rochester campus. Student teams came prepared on Friday with there machines and contraptions ready to show people their hard work and more importantly have some great fun! The teams this year were diverse, with representatives from most class years, a couple graduates, a team from RIT, and even an entry from some middle schoolers. Unlike recent years this event was set-up for long range and short range accuracy. This provided a new twist in the competition and proved to make the task a little harder than previous years. All in all everyone had a good time and we hope to see you again next year.

Fall Picnic up in Smoke!
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers enjoyed a beautiful afternoon out in the sun on Friday September 15th. Well, maybe the forecast was overcast with a slight rain, but the faculty, professors, and students of the mechanical engineering department did enjoy a wonderful afternoon at the Genesee Valley Park pavilion. The first department wide event of the new semester the ASME Fall Picnic proved to be a great success. For all seventy who attended the social event, they were rewarded with hamburgers, hot dogs, beverages and of course the opportunity to relax. Students met at ITS around 5pm and many stayed late into the night.

ASME Rocks Fall Activities Fair
The American Society of Mechanical Engineers had a great showing at the annual student fall activities fair September 8th. Students enjoyed the afternoon off from class as the perused the many tables. Among the crowd favorites were the Strong Jugglers, the Mini Baja club, and of course the pumpkin launcher drew many to the ASME table. More than twenty students expressed interest in joining the international group, as well as many students curiosity towards the pumpkin launcher itself. To learn more about ASME as a society you can visit the ASME national website.
