Texts: J. P. den Hartog Mechanical Vibrations  Dover (recommended)
               B. Friedland Control System Design  Dover (required)

These are older books. The den Hartog, at least, is a classic.  We will not be using it directly (except for workshop problems), but it is a very useful book for your library, and it's cheap.  Here's an appreciation of the man Den Hartog.

Computational Tools: I will be using Mathematica.  You may use that, or MatLab, or pencil and paper, but you need to comment your solutions sufficiently well that it is clear to us that you know what you are doing.

Grading:

There will be weekly problem sets, a midterm, and a project.  Each segment will be 1/3 of your grade.

The midterm will be a "poop sheet" exam.  Any information you can fit on both sides of an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet is fine.  I want you to turn in the poop sheet with the exam.
