Tenure-track Faculty Position in Materials Science

The Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University of Rochester invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Applicants at the assistant professor level are preferred, but exceptional candidates at a senior level will also be considered. The expected starting date is July 2024. Candidates with expertise in experimental materials science or applied mechanics are strongly encouraged to apply. Research areas include but are not limited to the development of x-ray spectroscopy diagnostic techniques such as scattering, absorption spectroscopy, emission spectroscopy, photoelectron spectroscopy, or resonant inelastic scattering, and other advanced measurement instrumentation to understand the structure-property relationships, light-matter interaction, and other behaviors of quantum materials. A PhD in mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related field is required. The successful candidate is expected to establish an independent, extramurally funded research program, advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students, participate in departmental activities, and teach graduate and undergraduate courses. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is committed to increasing the diversity of the campus community and the curriculum. Candidates who can contribute to that goal are encouraged to apply and identify their strengths and experiences in this area.

Review of applications will begin on October 1, 2023. For full consideration, the application should arrive before December 1, 2023.
