Technology plays an important role in the Rochester economy. Also known as "The World's Image Centre", Rochester is the home to several leading high-tech companies including Eastman Kodak Company, Xerox Corporation, Bausch & Lomb, and General Motor's Fuel Cell Research Center. The University's own Medical Center provides state-of-the-art biotechnology and biomedical ventures. In addition to these larger enterprises, many small, high-technology companies offer graduate students and spouses many options for research in business and industry and provide Rochester with one of the lowest unemployment rates in New York.
