Research Interests
My research experience includes the electrohydrodynamic processing of biomaterials/nanomaterials, laser processing of materials, atomized vapor deposition under an electrostatic field, aerosol-assisted pyrolysis deposition, chemical vapor deposition of films/coatings, sol-gel processing of functional materials, and work involving advanced ceramics including ultra-high temperature materials. I intend to focus on these areas in my future research endeavors by investigating innovative processing techniques for biomaterials, nanomaterials and optical materials for biomedical, environmental and energy-related applications.
My current research interests are: (1) to generate and investigate micro- and nanometer materials with novel properties and functions through electrospinning and electrospraying techniques and to explore their applications in the fields in energy management and bioengineering; (2) to apply laser-assisted processing for preparing biomedical and functional materials; (3) to prepare complex oxide ceramics for thermoelectric applications and transparent rare-earth doped polycrystalline ceramics for laser applications; and (4) to produce nanostructured films or coatings for layered fuel/solar cells, medical implants, and environmentally-friendly coatings through aerosol-assisted vapor deposition and other advanced techniques.
